FAQ

What is ABS? ABS stands for Antilock Braking Systems, a widely accepted and proven add-on braking system; stands for driver safety and ease of operation: ABS is a safety device. It allows the rider to squeeze the brakes as hard as they like without risk of the wheels locking. A locked wheel has no effective grip with a smooth road surface and as such gives no aid to balance, control or braking. A locked wheel will try to pass a turning one. ABS is a safety device not an aid to performance. Think of the ABS like a cars air bag. If it activates, something is wrong. You cannot beat the laws of physics, break that law and you don't just get a ticket.

Can Saferide be fitted onto newly purchased motorcycles?
Yes, Saferide can be very easily fitted onto newly purchased motorcycles. Do ensure dirt-free system for longer working of Saferide.

Can Saferide be fitted onto existing motorcycles?
Yes, Saferide can be very well fitted onto existing (relatively older) motorcycles.
  Please ensure

To clean the brake caliper and/or entire Hydraulic Braking System properly with the help of compressed air to remove any dirt/dust/impurities from the system
To check the existing system thoroughly. Sometimes, in Old systems, it is necessary to change either of: Piston, Brake Pad/liners, 'O' rings, Oil Seals, Washers etc. to ensure that Saferide ABS system works properly.
To kindly replace existing oil with new/unused Hydraulic Brake oil of good quality. This will ensure longer life and proper working of internal components of Saferide.

What about wear & Tear of the system? Usually, Saferide ABS system works for a prolonged period of time; repairing however, this system is not advisable and is not economic. It is more advisable to change with a new one.

What special care is to be taken while assembling Saferide? Special care has to be taken (a) to remove air bubbles and (b) use good quality brake oil.

Is Saferide applicable to all type of motorcycles? Yes, Saferide can be used with almost all Indian motorcycles, see the list.

Where do Saferide works best? Saferide, like any other ABS system, works in normal and harsh road conditions as well.

Should I modify my riding? Riding with ABS is no different to non-ABS. You should not rely on ABS to save you from poor riding. ABS activation may cause the brake pedal or lever to pulse, this is normal, hold brakes tight and donot take off hand/foot from the lever/pedal.

What about Hydraulic Brake Oil? Continue using your Brake oil, but make sure the reservoir is always above optimum (or full) and the oil used is of a good quality one.

Will I notice anything when the ABS is working? In many vehicles, drivers may experience a rapid pulsation of the brake lever/ brake-pedal--almost as if the brakes are pushing back at you. Sometimes a slight vibration may be felt--this means the ABS is working. It is important NOT to take your foot off the brake pedal/lever when you hear noise or feel pulsations, but instead continue to apply firm pressure.

Does ABS change the way I should use the brakes? You should not pump your brakes if you have ABS. Just hold your foot firmly on the brakes pedal and remember that you can still steer.

Do vehicles with ABS stop more quickly than Vehicle without? ABS, its primary task, is to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle during emergency braking situations, and try stopping the vehicle more quickly. ABS may shorten stopping distances on harsh driving conditions and will shorten stopping distances on dry roads with proper control. In wet or slippery conditions, you should still make sure you drive carefully, always keep a safe distance behind the vehicle in front of you, and maintain a speed consistent with road conditions.
